Vietnam to deport glam rocker Glitter to Britain

HANOI, Vietnam �

Former glam rocker and convicted child molester Gary Glitter will be deported back to Britain on Tuesday after being released from prison in Vietnam, his lawyer said.

Glitter, whose real name is Paul Francis Gadd, was convicted of obscene acts with children in March 2006 and sentenced to three long time in prison house. The incidents involved 2 Vietnamese girls, aged 10 and 11, from the southern coastal city of Vung Tau.

"Police booked his ticket from Ho Chi Minh City to London and I have already paid for the ticket on his behalf," his lawyer Le Thanh Kinh told The Associated Press by telephone Thursday.

Last year authorities cut three months off Glitter's three-year pokey sentence for good behaviour. He has been service of process his condition at Thu Duc prison house in Binh Thuan state, 87 miles north of Ho Chi Minh City.

Kinh said Glitter told him several months ago he did not want to go back to Great Britain, simply Vietnamese natural law requires he be returned to his home country.

In a recent interview with the Cong An Nhan Dan (People's Police) paper, Glitter aforementioned he intends to re-start his singing career and might incite to Singapore or Hong Kong.

Visa rules force top acts to pull out of Womad festival

Organisers of the country's biggest world music festival were forced to make last minute cancellations yesterday after trey musicians in their line up were ineffectual to obtain visas to play at Womad.

Another two performers � including a headlining star from Nigeria � were struggling to gain entry into Britain for the weekend festival which attracts more than four-spot million viewers. Womad is the in style of a succession of events that have been affected by tougher visa rules.

Visa requirements

Womad is one of the country's many "put to work permit-free" music festivals, but performers at these events still need to meet certain immigration requirements. Lee Ryan - Lee Ryan In Court Over Road Rage Incident

Former Blue singer Lee Ryan attacked a taxi driver by punching him in the head on New Year's Eve, a court heard today.

The 25-year-old is accused of assaulting Naeem Ibrahim in Surrey last year after the singer's fiancée drove into the back of the cab driver's vehicle on Westerham Road, Oxted.

Mr Ryan, who denies the charges, was reportedly on his way to a party at the time of the incident, which has been described as a 'road rage' attack.

An argument is said to have ensued between the two men, which culminated in Mr Ryan striking Mr Ibrahim three times.

At the time, the Sun newspaper quoted a 'friend' of the pop star as saying: "Lee was going to a party and there was a bit of a crash, nothing big, but he lost his temper.

"A taxi driver got the brunt of it and then the law turned up and nicked Lee. He was stuck in a patrol car... it did not improve his mood and ruined his New Year's Eve."

The case, which is being heard at Redhill Magistrates Court, had been delayed because Mr Ibrahim was in India and was unable to attend.

Turin Film Commission launches fund

Emphasis on up-and-coming directors

ROME -- The Turin Film Commission has unveiled a new 1 million euro ($1.56 million) fund for helping up-and-coming directors.


The TurinFilmLab will differ from most film funds in that it will spend between 50,000 euros ($78,000) and 200,000 euros ($312,000) each to help develop directors' first or second features regardless of whether the projects are filmed in Italy.


The budget will be spent in three main areas: training (focusing on an advanced scriptwriting course), development (helping emerging directors develop their projects) and funding (helping secure funding for selected projects).


According to Savina Neirotti, the newly appointed director of the TurinFilmLab, the aim is to foster more high-quality films and to further establish Turin as a world film center.


"We know this isn't a process that will happen in a single year, but we are looking to help develop new talents," Neirotti told The Hollywood Reporter.


The TurinFilmLab will work on cooperation with other Italian and European film funds and will be associated with the Torino Film Festival, where projects selected by the TurinFilmLab's advisory board will be presented to producers, sales agents and distributors.

On the one hand, it shouldn't matter. The album should be judged on its musical merits alone. But would you have listened to it were it by anyone else? Would she even have a recording contract if not for her acting credentials?Seastories is Driver's second outing as a solo artist. And although it's nothing exceptional, it's not a total embarrassment either. Rather, it's a pleasant collection of alternative country songs with touches of folk and soft rock. But it is entirely forgettable. After four turns on the stereo, not a single melody or lyric will remain in your consciousness.Indeed, the only lasting thought after listening to the record is how remarkably American the British actress sounds . With her deep, soothing drawl, Driver provides a warm and mellow listening experience that at times comes across as a collection of lullabies, particularly Stars & Satellites and Lakewater Hair. At other times, she enters hoe-down territory, as on King Without a Queen and Sorry Baby, complete with twanging slide guitar melodies.




Driver proves she can hold a decent tune, but so can a lot of people. And they don't have record contracts.

It’ll surprise fans expecting another Heavy Soul-style Mod rock set,
but it’s good to see there’s plenty of tricks left in
Paul yet.

Winehouse quizzed by police over drug claim

Singer Amy Winehouse has been questioned in connection with a video which allegedly showed her smoking crack cocaine, a police source said on Wednesday.
A Scotland Yard spokesman said officers interviewed the 24-year-old in connection with an allegation of unlawful possession of a controlled drug.
He said she was not arrested, but was interviewed under caution and inquiries were continuing.
Last month footage obtained by the Sun newspaper appeared to show Winehouse inhaling fumes from a crack pipe.
The disturbing images were said to have been filmed during a party at Winehouse's London home.
The singer is now in rehab, admitting herself to the clinic in north London on 24 January days after the video appeared.
On 4 February the singer took a break from her treatment to apply for a US visa so she could attend the Grammys in Los Angeles on 10 February, where she is nominated for six awards.
The application process will not be simple due to her drugs record. Last October she was arrested and fined in Norway for possession of cannabis.

Teen singer gets big Hollywood break

Tauranga singer-songwriter Jeremy Walden has been given the biggest break of his musical career - a chance to perform in front of industry heavyweights in Hollywood.The 18-year-old former Tauranga Boys' College student has been invited to a five-day workshop at the Hollywood Pop Academy in Los Angeles, giving him the opportunity to wow American record executives.He said it came about by chance when Christina Aguilera's manager, Ron Harris, invited him to the academy after "stumbling across" his internet MySpace page, allowing him to bypass the audition process."Usually when they get people to come and audition, they're still learning themselves and they sing covers," Walden said.He has been singing since his days at kohanga reo - through kapa haka and at school as a member of hip-hop group Lyrical Officials - and describes his style as hip-hop urban R&B pop. The US-based academy's classes include vocal technique, stage performance, dance and songwriting.




It offers the opportunity to perform for representatives from Warner Music, Capitol Records, Disney, Interscope and Sony.Mr Walden has picked up sponsorship and has been touring the country, performing at secondary schools to raise money for the trip to Los Angeles in July.Leaving school at 17 to pursue a fulltime career in music, he is now cutting his teeth in the big time, meeting last week with Sony BMG in Auckland."I'm practically living my dream, I'm practically there," he says.
